Memorabilia Monday: Tau Beta Pi key

Happy new year! We hope that everyone had a nice holiday season and is ready for 2016.

Let’s kick off the year with a giant ceremonial key. This item, donated by Dr. John Treanor Smith ’40, is a replica of the Tau Beta Pi key/symbol with the signatures of the first society members.

Sadly, ΤΒΠ did not take group photos for the yearbook. Instead, here’s an image of the donor and his list of accomplishments while at the Institute. Dr. John Treanor Smith went on to contribute work to the Manhattan Project, teach at Rice, and work in the petroleum industry.
