William McVey graduated from Rice in 1927 and went on to be a noted sculptor. His beautiful reliefs depicting the life of a freshman are on the outside of the Will Rice College commons and on the second floor deck near the Hanszen College commons.
This McVey sculpture is from our memorabilia collection. We only know that a person donated it in 1985. If you have any more information about it, please let us know.
We also have McVey’s papers, which include a scrapbook from his days at Rice, along with news clippings, correspondence, and photographs related to his career.
