Rice’s intramural (IM) sports teams have a long tradition dating back to 1939. In the early years, the sports ranged from basketball and volleyball to bowling and table tennis. IM sports now include innertube water polo and floor hockey.

One of our wonderful volunteers, Mary Tobin, has created a finding aid for our Intramural Sports records. The collection consists of records of intramural athletic activities from when they were first organized in 1939 through 1995. Included are documents showing the sports offered, yearly numbers of participants, of annual winners in competitions, photographs of some of the teams, and news clippings, primarily from the campus newspaper, the Thresher.

While our current collection stops at 1995, we welcome any additions that will preserve IM history.  Feel free to email, call, or stop by with donations.
