In October 1900, Albert T. Patrick, William Marsh Rice’s lawyer, and Charles F. Jones, Rice’s valet, had an arraignment hearing, which explored their role in Rice’s murder. The article above actually outlines the testimony given by the bank teller who first saw the forged check and doubted its validity. It even points out how Patrick and Jones were actively bad criminals. Patrick misspelled his own name by leaving out the “l.”
