This weekend marks the premiere of Yusuke Asai’s new installation entitled “yamatane” at the Rice University Art Gallery. He created the installation in conjunction with the Menil Collection’s exhibit “Experiments with Truth: Gandhi and Images of Nonviolence.”

The connection between the Menil Collection and its founder Dominique de Menil with Rice University is quite long. John and Dominique de Menil came to the university in 1969 and founded the Institute for the Arts. Ms. de Menil’s connection with the university extended into the early 1980s. Here are some images that document that time.
