The Beginning of the Archives

Ray Watkin Hoagland and Pender Turnbull, 1969
The Library Committee officially started planning the archives in 1949. In 1968, the library allocated space for the Woodson Research Center. The image above shows how the back room of the archives looked in 1969. The shelves behind Ray Watkin Hoagland and Pender Turnbull are still in the back of the Woodson Research Center in the same position with the same tile flooring underneath them.
